I graduated from the University of Maryland at College Park, in 1986 with a BA in Psychology. Knowing for a very long time that I wanted to be a therapist and thinking I would go on to get a PhD , I decided Social Work school was a better fit. After assisting others who were working on their PhD with their research, I thankfully recognized that while I am grateful there are wonderful souls who love the research, writing and teaching, my passion was sitting down with people and really hearing their story. I graduated from the Catholic University with my Masters in Social Work in 1989.
After working at The Boys and Girls Homes of Maryland and another community mental health agency for several years, I started my practice, working with individuals, couples, and teens with a variety of issues such as, depression, anxiety, grief, life transition, ADHD/ADD, parenting, trauma and acute and chronic illness.
I believe that all people want to feel better and sometimes need professional guidance. My role is to provide a safe, confidential healing relationship, so one may explore the self, thoughts, feelings and behaviors, in order to heal and feel a deeper sense of peace, and higher level of functioning.
I facilitated four different cancer support groups in Columbia for over 12 years, and have had the honor of working with cancer patients and people coping with many other acute and chronic illnesses for more than 15 years. I currently facilitate the Together We Thrive Cancer Support Group at the Claudia Mayer/Tina Broccolina Cancer Center on the second Saturday of the month. The group is free but registration is required. Please call the Center directly at 410 740 5858.
